Playlist of the Day: Melancholy

As described to Kate earlier this evening: It isn't jump off the ledge, but it's definitely look over the edge, converse with others up there, ask for a smoke...

Damien Rice - The entire 9 album
Johnny Cash - Hurt (in my opinion, much better than the NIN version)
Dixie Chicks - Cold Day in July
Sarah Mclachlan - Good Enough (the Mirrorball album)
Staind - Zoe Jane
Bruce Springsteen - Streets of Philadelphia
Matchbox Twenty - Hand Me Down
Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah
Bill Withers - Ain't No Sunshine

... More to come... I'd love to see your suggestions.

I would highly recommend Ryan Adams' new album, Easy Tiger. You'll love it; there are some slower slightly "depressing" songs, but also some more upbeat ones to bring you out of that state - if you so choose!

Also, Patty Griffin and Lucinda Williams have quite a few songs on their albums that might fit the bill!

Portishead- the Album "Dummy". Has that achy, haunting feel of the early '60s Bond film songs (Thunderball, Goldfinger); makes you want to sit in a chair on a rainy day with a bottle and glass and just brood with the lights off and think, while watching the rain and sippin. The group actually named themselves after the the town they came from in the UK; people there took it the wrong way; the group did it as a joke because they felt the town was so backwards about their music and didn't notice them until they made it outside of the UK.

Also, any blues sung by Bessie Smith or Ma Rainy. Classics for listening to with the screen door open to listen and smell the rain--rather soothing to listen to them at the same time.
