In the Aftermath...

So I'm not in Minneapolis today: I'm not sure if that is a blessing or a curse. I appreciate the dozen or so calls that I received from friends and family checking up on me and my husband - he and our stepson were no where near the bridge. I've watched the footage online and on TV over and over again; it is nearly unfathomable to me that thousands of lives can be altered so dramatically in a matter of seconds.

Don't believe everything you hear: news crews get to a scene as fast as possible and will report on what we should call "unconfirmed anything" so that they don't get scooped by the other news crews. The first responsibility of any emergency responder, bridge engineer or other disaster response unit is to take care of the injured and secure the area, not to answer to the press. We'll find out more details than we need to know soon enough.

If you are in the Twin Cities area, you can opt to attend a prayer service, search for family, or give blood. The American Red Cross is also accepting monetary donations. As always, be wary of anyone representing an unreliable or unknown organization requesting donations of any kind. Mnpls, we're thinking of you.
