Miss Allaneous, volume 1

Greetings loyal readers (otherwise known as the Dirty Half-Dozen):

Today is the inaugural post of websites that I particularly enjoy or at least find mildly interesting. Some of these may be shameless plugs for friend or family businesses, but that is my prerogative.

You can thank my husband and his creative English-language interpretations for the title of this weekly series.

Lake Side Earrings - this is my mom's business (aside from her already brilliant career as a nurse practitioner. She also breeds Labrador Retrievers (what can I say, she's a busy woman). Anyway, if you want some nice earrings, or a dog, check out her links.

Caedes- this site is free, although you are encouraged to create a login. Folks post their images - photographs and self-generated - so that others can use them. Caedes does a great job sizing them to use as desktop backgrounds. The single (not so good) image that I posted received kind reviews (it was so long ago, I can't find it anymore). I use only this website for my laptop backgrounds. They keep me calm at work.

Suze Orman- After reading her book Women and Money, I became a huge fan of Ms.Orman. I don't know her personally, but I believe in her work and her methods and I think that if I ever have the gumption to follow them, I'll be writing this blog from my condo in Maui.

Real Simple- So many good things come out of public television, but this is the only magazine that I subscribe to at home (and I think that, as a librarian, that's saying something). The articles are life-motivating, the reviews are interesting and helpful, and the products and recipes are clever. Of course, the whole goal is life simplification - they offer hundreds of tips and worksheets online to help you get your life organized so that you can spend time doing more important things, like blogging about a condo in Maui.

I don't necessarily know what I'm talking about - I've never even been to Maui. But my birthday is coming up.
