Well it's been a lovely weekend here. Not lovely outside - the weather has been really disgusting. However, I feel that James and I have been productive. Yesterday, we started out at the Farmer's Market to purchase some lovely seasonal produce and nice flowers for the table (I'd take a picture, but the camera is never where I need it). I also made a quick stop at the library - which is never a quick stop - and picked up some very interesting looking books, including Justice for All: Earl Warren and the Nature He Made. I haven't started it yet but it looks to be quite the interesting tome.
We then decided on the spur of the moment to head to Becker, a little town between the cities and St. Cloud. Why Becker, you ask? Well, they happen to have one of the largest furniture meccas of the state. Not that it helped us any - the receptionist didn't know what a vanity was, and when she finally pointed us to the bedroom section (past the clock hall, through leather, across entertainment, up the stairs, up the stairs, to the right - don't forget your passport). They had two vanities - $500 and $600 each, respectively. A quick drink of water and replenishing of supplies and we were back in the car.
Soon after, we headed to the Hom Furniture Store to check for a vanity. They had one - but it was somewhat small and had only one drawer. Alas, no sale. My dear husband mustered the fortitude to continue driving, from Brooklyn Park to Stillwater, a lovely town just north of St.Paul that is renown for its Antique Shops. We finally picked up a lovely Ethan Allen vanity. The piece is flat, but the mirror is in the center and lifts up to reveal a center with storage. It also had two drawers in either side, one with velvet compartments (the other one probably did too, at one time). Another quick stop at Mill Antiques, and we had a lovely chair that nearly matched the vanity perfectly. Viola! A happy wife is born.
And then it is today. After a slightly lazy morning, we got right to work cleaning the house in preparation for a visit from my sisters (they will be here Thursday. Why clean early, you ask? Well, because I'll be gone Tuesday and Wednesday, and I don't expect my dear husband to do it all). I have just vacuumed the living room, when I decided I didn't feel like doing much more. So here I am. Blogging. Seeking out the energy to finish the job. The honey-do list is getting longer as we speak...
